New Signing; Release Schedule Revisions
We think it was Sonic Youth who said "They can't catch you with me 'cause I move too slow."  So
yeah, we're not exactly sending aural ammunition out like we had hoped, but we're still working
on it (even if only at a snail's pace).  We've got good news, though!  Next Best Records is
pleased to announce to no one in particular that a new Columbus band, Fourth Street Only, will
be recording an EP soon, and that it will probably be the label's first release (leapfrogging the
Lee Wadlinger and Knights releases).  More info on Fourth Street only and their yet-to-be-titled
EP will be forthcoming (catch the pun there?).  Anyways, here's a revision of what we've got
coming up:

  • Fourth Street Only, TBA EP (NBR-004), late Winter 2007
  • Lee Wadlinger, TBA EP (NBR-001), late Winter/early Spring 2007
  • the Knights of Infinite Resignation, Peace and Rest EP (NBR-002), Spring 2007
  • Lee Wadlinger, Lee Wadlinger's Guide to Dating rerelease (NBR-003), Spring 2007

As always, for more info, check out the
New and Upcoming Releases page.

And if you're really bored, old news (and we mean
old) is now available at the Old News page.

The Next Best Records Online Store Is Now Online!
We've finally set up the NBR Online Store.  Check it out.  Here's a quick rundown of the items available
for sale:

  • The Pesotum/Lee Wadlinger split 7" vinyl single from 1997.  It's hard to be believe that this is
10 years old already.  Released on the now-defunct Eclectic Citrus Bowls label, the single features
three songs by each artist.  Available for $3.50 (just a 50 cent markup from the 1997 price!).

  • Lee Wadlinger Magic Ball Hunt cassette EP.  Also released on Eclectic Citrus Bowls (this goes
back to '96 ).  Lee says he's never going to let any more copies of Wondering Boy Poet see the
light of day, so this EP likely represents the earliest recordings of his that you'll ever be able to get
your hands on.  Basically, Magic Ball Hunt is his take on Devil Between My Toes-era Guided By
Voices filtered through a mid-90's suburban Cleveland sensibility.  $3.

  • I Am Shorter Than You Are Taller Than Am I and Selling Off The Bees, two compilations
featuring a ton of great bands (and Mr. Wadlinger).  We found a few copies of each of these in a
couple of old boxes--once they're gone, they're gone.  (The I Am Shorter comp is also available
directly from Kelp Records. We haven't been able to find Bees elsewhere, but here's a review, and
we also advise you to check out the Bombco site if interested.)  Each is available here for $12.

  • Knights of Infinite Resignation T-shirts.  They're finally available.  Check out the pictures in the
    store.  $15.

New Knights Single Due Next Month
July 24 will see the release of the first single by the Knights of Infinite Resignation.  Entitled "Paris Hilton &
Captain Beefheart," the A-side showcases the band's "lighter" side while exploring the interplay between
low and high culture, Converse sneakers, and Krautrock.

Two B-sides (or, as the band likes to call them, a B-Side and a C-Side), round out the record, which will
be released on CD as well as through every digital music store known to man.

Track Listing:

  1. Paris Hilton & Captain Beefheart
  2. Surprise Cover Song (CD version only)
  3. Cricket the Bug

New Lee Wadlinger EP Out Today
Gee, it's been two months, and NBR-land has seen two new releases.  You already know about the
Knights'
Paris Hilton & Captain Beefheart singe, don't you?  What's news, then, is that we've just
unleashed a "new" Lee Wadlinger EP onto the Internets today.  Entitled
The ECB Years: 1996-1997, the
10-song (!) EP is a compilation of songs Wadlinger recorded during the time he made records (and
tapes) for Eclectic Citrus Bowls Records.  The MP3's are ready for download
here, free of charge and for
your listening enjoyment.

Coming late '07/early '08:  New Knights LP
and new L.W. LP.
